love postcard #6: libra, ma'at & justice

the sun changes from mutable earth virgo to cardinal air libra, the moon follows with the elemental changes from fixed earth taurus to mutable air gemini, while we are still in the lands of in-between eclipses.
i was spiraling all week after the pisces lunar eclipse, and i’ve learnt deeper languages to be more intimate with my spiraling, phantom limbs and shadow feelings. if something deep was stirred within your heart, know that help is always around - seen or unseen, and i pray you have supportive people around you to ground your spiraling, after all - the lunation was answering to an exiled Jupiter - the planet of camaraderie.
, one of my beloved astrologer-friends wrote in a post, that was felt deeply in my eclipsed heart.Last night's lunar eclipse occurred in this lunar station with Markab looming nearby. Themes of sacrifice, hidden potential, mutual love, inner struggle, wisdom that leads to wealth, but also deceit, sorrow and grief are associated with it.
not all is lost on my end, because i’ve also witnessed celebratory moments/feelings like my younger brother bringing home his new car, my cousin announcing she’s getting married during a family gathering we hosted, and my cosmic bestie watching his favorite artist kylie minogue at a concert!
During my Gemini Moon lunar return yesterday, I randomly pulled 1 anchor card and 3 story cards to navigate Libra season from the Dark Goddess Tarot deck. To my surprise, IS IT A SUPRISE THOUGH? ~ I pulled Goddex Ma’at // Justice - a major arcana corresponding to the sign zodiac sign of Libra. Ma’at is the ancient Egyptian goddess of truth, justice, and order.
In the past, I have worked closely with Goddess Ma’at as part of my spirit team, perhaps similar angels are calling me to reunite with her principles. Ma’at is both a Goddess and a Concept. Ma’at was not merely a goddess to the ancient Egyptians; she embodied the essential principle of cosmic order. The ancient Egyptians believed that the universe operated according to a specific order, and it was Ma’at who maintained this balance. This belief fostered a strong sense of morality and justice among the people. Ma’at played a pivotal role in the journey to the Afterlife. According to Egyptian mythology, after death, every individual had to pass through the Hall of Judgment. Here, their heart was weighed against Ma’at’s feather of truth, usually associated with the ostrich feather. If the heart is balanced with the feather, the individual could proceed to the Afterlife. If not, their journey ended there. This belief significantly influenced the daily lives and actions of the ancient Egyptians.
As a Muslim mystic, the concept of Ma’at was natural for me to adopt because most Muslims believe in the process of reckoning (Al-Hisab) - when the good and bad deeds of a person on earth will be counted for (Virgo) and weighed on the scales (Libra), determining the next course of their afterlife, some would say the result would determine how one walks the path of Sirat al-Mustaqim, then Heaven/Hell.
In astrological concept, Libra being the abode of Venus and the crown of Saturn - corroborates with this understanding too. Venus rules the aesthetic balance and heart harmony of our lives, while Saturn is both the ultimate Judge and the witness of those who are living within their limitations and those who have transgressed, the Boundary Surveillance Queen.
In thinking and reflecting about the Ma’at / Justice card, I found myself referencing a book from a dear scholar-friend, Christopher. In the Red Tarot : A Decolonial Guide to Divinatory Literacy,
wrote that “Law is the language of power… those with hegemonic power go to great lengths to create a language that justifies exclusion while trying to ostensibly orient around liberty.” In the current mundane astrology, we know the South Node / Ketu has been transiting the sign of Libra / Justice since the middle of July 2023, and it has been apparent which powers are justifying the act of genocide by an apartheid state and multiple crimes against humanity. FREE PALESTINE UNTIL PALESTINE IS FREE!Of note, the upcoming solar eclipse around the week of 2nd October 2024 will partile conjunct the apartheid state of Israel’s natal Neptune. I hope and pray the collective amnesia surrounding the unprecedented historical violence this entity has caused will be exposed in full swing and divine justice prevails. My biased prediction is that more countries will enact laws against the settler colonialists in the form of a military embargo, an end to economic links, and the cutting of diplomatic ties with the state. There could be news surrounding water, authority leaders, treatment of children, and media companies, an exposé.
I PRAY THE SOLAR ECLIPSE ON THEIR NEPTUNE BECOMES WAVES OF WAKE-UP CALL FOR JUSTICE ON THE GLOBAL STAGE!
as tarot scholar Christopher Marmolejo wrote in their book on the major arcanum, “Justice maintains that there is knowledge that emerges outside the categories of domination… Justice consciousness recognizes the alienated, the dispossessed and the disenfranchised.”
to end this love postcard, i hope the themes of recalibration of balance & enactment of justice become more apparent in your PRACTICE this libra season, and i hope you can use your agency, no matter how small your perceived capacity may be to practice more LOVE & JUSTICE, with yourself, with your loved ones, with strangers, with other sentient beings, with the unseen realms, with communities, with the world.
