"we don't fuck with lies," truth hurts but love doesn't have to hurt season; the hermit + queen of swords + temperance wisdom through the astrological transit
peace be upon your devoted hearts - lovers,

as a venus year creative practice, i embarked on a venus embodiment youtube project with different astrologers. “this is an astrology project to witness the laughter-loving venus through the different signs and life experiences of astrologers living with her in their birth charts. in hopes that through our lively exchanges of the experiential venusian embodiments, the conversation helps others with similar venus signatures: zodiac signs, house placements, aspects, or planetary rulership to feel seen and celebrated for their venus too.” recently, i had an amazing time with pao who has a combust venus in leo as her chart ruler (taurus rising, taurus moon, leo sun). this has been such an exciting pursuit and i would love to witness the growth of my youtube presence + collaboration! listen and subscribe for future updates, for now we have only produced venus in gemini and cancer episodes, stay tuned for more!
in a virgoan fashion, my midheaven placement, we have decided to blend our (pisces) mercurial prowess of integrating divination system: astrology + tarot, imbued with planetary spirit guidance!
the astro-tarot for collective guidance
there are three important astrological activations left this virgo-libra september season: (1) mercury retrograde in libra-virgo (2) mars pre-shadow phase in gemini (3) venus in virgo ingress (her fallen placement). for the new moon in virgo, we created this reel as a remembrance to realign our theory and application, our words and actions. we also tweeted this in the middle of the night, and twitter-realm loved it:
for collective guidance, we are pulling a tarot card for each of the transit listed above for your reflection, prediction, and application. in hopes, they support your soul-centering and heart-affirming journeys this month. i am rooting for you, always!
(1) mercury retrograde in libra-virgo: the hermit
boom! the hermit in the tarot is associated with virgo vitality, the place where mercury is exalted. sometimes, we love to describe the major arcana card through its journey of the card before it and after it. the hermit comes before the “wheel of fortune” and after “strength.” the hermit is an archetype of its own as much as it is a process in-between. from strength, the hermit emerges as the guiding light within all of us - it is difficult to describe this “inner light,” but we all know how intimate our relationships with our inner-lights are, no matter how dim or bright they are perceived to be. if strength was the courage and confrontation needed to deepen our inner-work/heart-work/shadow-work/light-work/whatever-work, the hermit then is when we are with IT - in stillness and in movement. sometimes in a tarot session, people immediately assume that the hermit is a time of reclusion and meditation - which is NOT a wrong assumption because to focus on ourselves requires devoted time with ourselves, quality time. however, the hermit is a deeper invitation to reclaim our inner wisdom. dr. ali olomi mentioned how medieval muslim astrologers interpreted “leo-virgo-libra” archetypes as the “kingly-philosopher king-just king” below. we adopt this framing to understand the mercury retrograde phase between the sign of the philosopher (the virgo) and the just (the libra). the hermit card is about embracing our inner-philosopher, because, without our inner-principles, we could never have justice in our lives. thus, the mercury rx demands our reflection surrounding the APPLICATION of our inner-principles in relationships and collaboration (libra), and in our services towards others (virgo). because it is still a mercurial activation, this could portend reviewing and reclaiming our communication skills and psychopomping skills within these areas of life. the process that comes after the hermit is the “wheel of fortune” which is about changing our luck and circumstances or breaking cycles of suffering. wheel of fortune is associated with jupiter which would be opposing the libra mercury through jupiter rx in aries! in astrology, the opposition aspect is a space for integration. thus, the hermit invites us to tread the path of our inner-life one step at a time, integrating our critical minds and compassionate hearts. nobody could describe and live out your “hermit” energy but YOU!
(2) mars pre-shadow phase in gemini: the queen of swords
oooh spicy! the fiercest queen in the tarot came through, oh wait, it is THE fiercest amongst the face cards and, arguably, the minor arcana too - fight me, haha! we love the queen of swords ~ i always find it interesting how the queen of swords is associated with cardinal air, libra. at first impression-wise, we never felt queen of swords is libran in nature, yet after various perspectives and practices: damn, we could witness how independent, unbiased, and fierce the queen of swords is, and how it is hella “big libra energy!” because mars in gemini delivered this card for us, this has to do with an advocate of truth, a truth-warrior of sorts. the brilliant jessica dore explained how “a truthteller is a warrior” in one of her amazing descriptions of the queen of swords:
because “a desire spoken… triggers big move into a new kingdom… [costing you] the old.” FUCK IT UP! right? mars is spending his sweet time in gemini for seven months until mid-late march - a month that was named and derived after him, as the roman god of war! thus, the transit in gemini - a mutable air sign - is giving space for us to mutate our truth surrounding something or someone or whatever. mars has less dignity in gemini except for within certain bounds and decan association. nonetheless, this is a time to collect new information and to decide - mars does not like inaction, and in gemini - it is also a sign related to lies and trickery. perhaps our inactions reflect a more profound sense of denial - the lies we tell ourselves, the lies conditioned from our upbringing/surrounding, or the ones we gather from those who are deemed more powerful, yet they are deceptive. queen of swords screams discernment and justice - something HAS to change here, something HAS to mutate, especially in the gemini parts of our lives as well as in the aries and scorpio houses, which are mars-ruled by extension. gemini is the sign of mutation with every new information, mars forces us to change with the truth, mars is THE sword in the queen of swords, and TRUTH fucking HURTS, sometimes, but it is also one of the most liberating acts of justice for ourselves and our surrounding.
quoting lizzo’s lyric from truth hurts felt very apt for the transit and tarot card:
Truth hurts, needed something more exciting, Bom bom bi bom bi dum dum, ay, I'ma hit you back in a minute, I don't play tag, bitch I been it, We don't fuck with lies, We don't do goodbyes, We just keep it pushing like aye, aye, aye...
for mars in gemini support, we are relying upon the wisdom from one of my favorite diviners/cartomancers and a dear soul-friend, chris (from @red__read), who posted a reminder on the practice of affirmation ~ “medicine is in mantra, praying the rosary, music, recitation, breathwork.” refer the nine of swords interpretation and affirmation below, a tarot card and decan associated with mars in gemini. personally, i cried when i saw this post because nine of swords has been so pivotal to my spirit-led life journey - it was a huge reminder for how much i have grown and learned through my fears over the years. i have my gemini south node (ketu) within this decan; the nine of swords was one of my spiritual portals!
in sum, the queen of swords channeling of mars in gemini transit is here to remind us that: our tongues and our minds are the sharpest tools we have closest to us; to be a truth warrior is to dispel and pierce through all the lies that exist within and without. we are the person closest to these marsian tools, capable of creating wounds and remedies, use them wisely and justly like the queen of swords we are. wishing us all greater bravery, clarity, truth and also safety through this transit. when in doubt, summon the energy of the queen of swords (or lizzo) as your protectress: “we don’t fuck with lies!”
(3) venus in virgo ingress: temperance
aaah, our beautiful temperance. one of my beloved tarot teachers, lindsay mack, terms the second line (strength to temperance) of the major arcana as “death spiral,” an underworld journey. from this, i call temperance as the final guardian of the death spiral. sometimes i view temperance as a form as surrender to something bigger than us, something much larger, something much more powerful. lindsay mack mentioned how “a huge piece of temperance, too, is not to fuck around anymore or try to figure out any more stuff that's beyond you to figure out.” venus here in virgo, is entering her fallen placement - and she is trying to figure it out, i repeat TRYING. in one my past writings, i wrote that, “fallen planets have an intimate relationship with the idea and experience of failing. fallen placements excel at failing: failing miserably and [only much] later, gracefully. for exalted planets, grace is given prior to any success-failure, and perhaps grace is taken away if they fail (ouch!) and earned more if they succeed. however, for fallen planets - grace is slowly earned as they fail, failing countless times until the [beautiful] grace of achieving” something worthy of exaltation.
for me the grace of fallen virgo venus is that this is the time where the incomprehensible love becomes somewhat more comprehensible. venus has a harsher and more humbling time in virgo because if virgo is about comprehension and articulation - then venus in virgo is supposed to understand and articulate the formless concept of love. for me it is like asking a group of brilliant students/scholars to interpret a love poem, BUT it is a multiple choice question with only one “right” answer. wtf right? the game or test is rigged!
this is where the true virgo venus magick comes in, they have to play with different rules altogether. like the tarot card, virgo venus is about the temperance of love: a love that is spiritual must also be a love that is physical - and the cultivation of the physical manifestation of love is also spiritual. if someone comes to a virgo venus and asks her/them/him, “what is love?” she/they/he would unapologetically give you a list of actionable items of what love is. however… virgo venusian would also be scared and/or shy to express the list because, like the MCQ, the other person might judge them for having such a list or worse - shamed for being “wrong” to define love this way. alternatively, virgo venus could be one of those people telling yall to stop fucking around trying to imagine the big love, but tell (or yell) you instead THIS IS THE BIG LOVE, BABY! this is not to say virgo venus is unimaginative, i believe they are practically one of the most creative venus around - rather, virgo venus has an intimate relationship with alchemy (another temperance symbology with the cups) - they will bring “imagination” into the ingredients, but they are not fooled by imagination alone - like brewing a love-potion, love is a process curated into perfection, because they believe in the process of temperance: what is within their power, and what should be surrendered to the more-than-human power. there is so much purity in believing our limits, and venus in virgo love limits as much as they love possibilities in relationships. because fallen venus has more shame in virgo, allegedly, it is our role to liberate her from further shame through less judgment and more discernment. i hope, virgo venus provides greater comprehension of love for each of us!
