Like The Fool card in the major arcana, I trust you to… take the leap of faith (Jupiter), take the leap of courage (Mars), to take the leap love (Venus), to take the leap of ancestral wisdom (Moon/Saturn), and to take the leap of your shining light (Sun).
The Magician & The Myth Of Preparedness
I have been thinking a lot about the myth of preparedness with The Magician card lately. Especially with all the planetary retrogradation in the skies ~ past (Mars), current (Venus), and incoming (Mercury) at the time of this writing. Perhaps because The Magician card is often associated with Mercury, the Dexterous Divine Messenger - their exaltation resides in Virgo and their domicile places are Gemini & Virgo, the know-it-all signs of the zodiac.
I remember when I was emerging as an astrologer & spirit guide bridger in 2021, there was a time when I prepared extensively (to my detriment) for a session. After all, I have a Virgo Midheaven & Gemini Moon - Ketu answering to a fallen Pisces Mercury. Honestly, parts of me were glad I did that because some sessions ended up feeling amazing, and I am enormously humbled when the preparation paid off in multiple ways. There were some other sessions that left me feeling drained - as if I was doing too much but also not enough. In retrospect, perhaps parts of me wished I had a community like The Magician’s Table to honor the various voices of my emerging spiritual craft and mystical circle.
Still, I learned a lot about my rhythms of preparedness and my relationships with preparedness. To be The Magician is to embrace the chaos and cohesion of preparedness and improv. The typical meaning of the major arcana card alludes to the resourcefulness of the querent to make things happen, and anyone familiar with the process of making things happen KNOW that preparation is only part of the puzzle of creations. The role of The Magician is to honor the truth in each moment and react/respond accordingly as an agent of the multiple spirit realms. Sometimes our reactions contradict our preparation, sometimes our responses complement our preparation, and sometimes we go off tangent. The role of Mercury (The Magician) is to be the psychopomp not the psycho-POMPOUS
Thus, if you find yourself asking whether you are “ready” for something pivotal - like how I recently questioned whether I am ready to become the 13th Reader for The Magician’s Table. The answer is most probably that YOU ARE READY, yet readiness is a myth that we constantly debunk as we take the next step of action. In the major arcana, The Magician provides us with the resourceful tools of Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Spirit - to consciously channel the otherworldly to reality, creating a holy offering worthy of the temples of The High Priestess.
